Comparison between vygotsky and piaget

COMPARING VYGOTSKY AND PIAGET                                                      Social Interaction Theory                 Social Interaction plays a fundamental role in the process of cognitive development, in contrast to Piaget’s notion that children’s development must necessarily precede their learning .In Vygotsky’s theory social learning precedes development. Every function of the child’s cultural development appears twice:              1.   Social Level and the individual level) 2.There is between people and the child himself. Lev Vygotsky studied the social situation that was happening in Russia at the time of the struggle of the working class and the Bourgeoise, and the Jewish people being polarized. He relates these social factors to his social theory. Further, he acknowledged that these events served as the basis of him coining his social theory. Moreover, he believed  that consciousness & cognition are the end product of socialization and social behavior. Additionally, Vygotsky places emphasis on culture affecting or shaping cognitive development. On the other hand Piaget’s view of universal stages and content development is opposed to it.              In order to gain further understanding of Vygotsky's theory of cognitive development it is utmost to understand the (MKO) More Knowledgeable Other. This refers to someone who has a better  understanding or a higher ability level than the learner  with respect to  a particular task. For  instance the young girl who is given her first jigsaw  puzzle, alone she performs poorly in attempting to solve the puzzle. However, her father then sits with her  describes, and demonstrates basic steps to her. A s the child becomes more competent, Dad then allows her to work more independently. This contrast with Piaget's solitary play (An individual being allowed to work on a project or to play by himself).
